Lela Mae Bowles, 63, of Mobile, passed away on May 20, 2020.
Lela was a devoted wife and loving mother who spent her life caring for her family. She grew up in Mobile, Alabama, Memphis, Tennessee and Slidell, Louisiana but returned to Mobile as an adult where she met her husband Donald, fell in love, started her own family and lived the rest of her life. She enjoyed her childhood family traditions of traveling the country on numerous vacations. She loved dachshunds, cooking delicious food and rock n roll music. Her children were her everything, especially her miracle daughter Brittany who battled and defeated cancer at the age of 2. Their bond is irreplaceable. The impact she had on the lives of friends and family is immeasurable. Lela was a selfless woman who always put the needs of others before her own. She was always thinking of ways to help others in any way she could. Her motherly instinct was natural and effortless as it extended beyond just her own children. Providing that happiness to someone else is what made her happy and the world was much better for it. Her family loved her deeply and will miss her more than she could ever know. We honor her by living our lives with the same endless love she provided us so that one day we will be reunited again.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Maybelline Johnson; her father, James Whatley; and her sister Diane Bourgeois.
Lela is survived by her husband of 37 years, Donald Ray Bowles; her children, Dustin (Andrea) Bowles and Brittany Bowles; her two sisters Gail (Robert) Odom and Ellen (Gary) McCarver; her granddaughter Emmalyn Bowles; and many other family, friends, and loved ones.
A gathering of family and friends will be held on May 28th, 2020, at Kenmar Family Funeral Home from 11 A.M. to 12 P.M.
