George “Bubba” Wesley Mears, 86, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, May 5, 2020 at Springhill
Manor in Mobile, Alabama. Bubba was born on November 6, 1933 to George Elijah and
Rosa Thomas Mears. Bubba served in Korea with the United States Army and was honorably
discharged in 1962. In 1963, he married Edith Jeanette Prine. He and Jeanette cherished each other
and their many pets over their 57 years of marriage.
Bubba thoroughly enjoyed and loved his family, especially all his nieces and nephews. He loved
taking them places with him and telling them stories about his wrestling career and was still an avid
WWE wrestling fan.
Bubba was a faithful servant of God and enjoyed worshipping at the Azalea City Church of Christ. He
was one who truly never met a stranger in life. His jovial demeanor and charismatic personality won
the hearts of those who knew him best. Bubba devoted more than 60 years of his life working at
local businesses in the Mobile area before retiring.
He is survived by his wife Jeanette Mears, brother William “Bill” Mears (Susie), brothers in-law,
William “Sonny” Prine (Lois) and Leonard Prine (Linda), sister in law Bette Jean Bradley (Mike); more
than 60 nieces and nephews; extended family; dear neighbors Brian and Jennifer Donovan; and
He is preceded in death by his parents, grandmother Eta Thomas, a long list of the Mears family that
moved from Florida to Mobile in the late 1920’s and the Thomas and Lott families on Gulfcrest and
Sand Ridge Roads near Citronelle.
Jeanette and the family would like to thank the staff at Springhill Manor for the care they provided
Bubba and to all those who visited and prayed for him during his time there.
Visitation will be from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. on Saturday morning, May 16, 2020 at the Kenmar Family
Funeral Home, followed by a funeral service and then interment at the Lambert Cemetery near
