May 17, 1957 ~ May 10, 2019 (age 61)

From the family of Tara Demetropoulos Stracener

Tara passed away on May 10,2019 after a long and courageous battle with Cancer.  She was 61.  She grew up in Mobile, AL and was raised in the Navco area.  She was known as a giant in a small package. Tara was a Vietnam Veteran who served in the  U S Army for 3 years.   She loved bringing people together whether it be family, friends or strangers.  Tara served as Administrator of The Navco Facebook Page and was responsible for planning and coordinating the Navco Reunions for 4 years.  If not for her, many friends would have never found each other, after being separated for over 40 years.

She lived in Orlando for about 20 years before moving back to Mobile. While in Orlando, she worked as an event planner with Sunshine Networks. She made many friends in Orlando who missed her so much they would visit Mobile on a regular basis (especially for Mardi Gras).

Tara had a strong love for children & animals.

When she was 11 years old Kenneth tried to kiss her and she told him, “If you do, I will punch you in the nose”!  Right then Kenneth told himself, “I’m going to marry that girl one day”!

Tara was preceded in death by her Father William Louis Demetropoulos II and Brother William Louis Demetropoulos III.  She is survived by her Husband Kenneth Stracener; her Mother Jimmie Lou (Snipes) Owings; Stepfather William Owings; Stepmother Carol Demetropoulos; Her children Dennis Dancause, Jr. and Charles Dancause.  Daughters Alison Barksdale and Denise Dancause.  Her Grandchildren; Dakota and Brayden Dancause; Lochlyn and Addilyn Dancause; Joshua and Faith Allen Barksdale; Ruby and Chloe Garner and Lea Bennet; Brothers George Demetropoulos and William Kenneth Owings; Sisters Su Wanna Demetropoulos, Cassia Schell, Janet Owings, Diane Cox and Rachael Demetropoulos; beloved pets Jezebel and Sassy.

She will be greatly missed by all.

A memorial service is set for June 2, 2019 at 2:00 P.M. at New Life United Methodist Church at the corner of Dauphin Island Parkway & McVay Drive. Food and visitation will follow.
