Ronald Ray (Bubba) Johnson Sr, 75, Bayou La Batre, AL, went to be with the Lord, April 23, 2019.
He was born in Coden, AL, April 24, 1943. He passed peacefully at Covenant Care, surrounded by family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Wilson Johnson, his mother, Mazie Lami Johnson, one sister, Wanda Johnson, and a brother Wilson (Nookie) Johnson, also Papa Richard Bosarge who was like a second father, brother-in-law, Hokie Bates, and sister-in-law, Jenny Johnson.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Frances Stokes Johnson and four sons, Ronald Jr (Kimberly), Tony (Michelle), Darren, and Roger (Brooke). Grandchildren; Marcus (Kelly), Matt (Holly), MacKenzie (Dewayne Holliman), Tony Jr, Brody, Josie, Jonah, Bryant, and Emily. Great-grandchildren; Jax, Benley, Remi, Branten, Ryleigh, Hadley Sue, Ethan, and Larkin. He had five surviving siblings, Sonia (Hokie) Bates, Ricky (Thelma) Johnson, Cherry (Buggy) Stokes, Wayne (Cindy) Johnson, and Marvette (Debbie) Johnson. He had many family and friends that he loved and always had a big hug for.
Bubba was raised in the Coden/Bayou la Batre area where from a child, he learned to work on the water. He made a living as a commercial fisherman by crabbing, shrimping, and oystering. You could always find him and Ms. Frances around Coden Beach or in the front yard playing with their grandchildren.
Memorial Service will be held April 27, 4:00 pm at Lighthouse of Hope Holiness Church, 11501 Argyle Road, Irvington. Food and visitation following service until 7:30 pm. In lieu of flowers, please donate through PayPal at email@example.com. All proceeds will go to Ms. Frances.
