Mrs. Virgie "Marie" Smilie, loving wife, mother, and grandmother (also known to her great-grandkids as Granny Re'), born June 3, 1940 lost her battle with cancer Thursday March 28, 2019 at the young age of 78. In doing so, she was predeceased by her husband Raymond Smilie, daughter Tonya Leytham, her parents Edward C. Lancaster and Verna Clearmon, two son-in-laws Billy Leytham and David Heathco, also granddaughter Tiffany Stabler.
Marie is survived by her daughter Donna Heathco, son Kenny Ladner (Janet), her grandkids, her great grandkids, many brothers and sisters (some are still here with us and some she is celebrating with in Heaven), and other family, friends, and loved ones.
Marie was a very hard-working woman spending 25 plus years cooking for Personal Touch Catering where she truly loved cooking. Her love for cooking also showed in her home every Sunday where she cooked lunch for her family so she could have them together. Marie truly loved spending her spare time with kids and grandkids. She also loved being able to spend time with her great-grandkids. She was said to have had the best hugs and the most listening ears when anyone needed them.
Marie would not want us to be sad at this time but to celebrate the life she lived and to know she is watching over us.
A graveside service will be held at Oddfellows Cemetery in Bayou La Batre, AL on Wednesday, April 3rd at 3 P.M.
