James Harold Middleton, age 82, a native and lifelong resident of the Tanner Williams community in Alabama, passed away at his home on Wednesday, May 1, 2019. He was a loving son, husband, father, and friend.
He is preceded in death by his parents Jewel and Irene Lawley Middleton and by his wife of 60 years Marita Rester Middleton.
James met his wife Marita at Semmes High School where he played both football and basketball. He was an active member of the 4-H Club. James was a 1959 graduate of Mississippi Southern College (now known as University of Southern Mississippi). After earning a degree in Math, he returned home where he became a 5th generation Alabama farmer. He had a deep connection to his land, cattle, and community.
James is survived by his loving and devoted family; son Don Middleton of Tampa, FL; daughter Susan Seward (Steve) of Tanner Williams, MS; daughter Karen Pierce (Justin) of Tanner Williams, AL; four grandchildren: Megan (Chance), Andrew, Katelyn, and Abigail; sister-in-law Lycyle Crowdus of Mobile, AL; one nephew Ronald Attebery (Dana) of Mobile, AL; great-nephew Mason; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services for Mr. Middleton will be held on May 6th, 2019 at the Tanner Williams Holiness Church in Tanner Williams, AL. Visitation will begin at 2pm until service time at 3pm. Interment will follow at Joyner Cemetery in Tanner Williams, AL. Bro. Donnie Williamson will be officiating the services.
Pallbearers for the service will be Ronald Attebery, Chance Brown, Mike McAdams, Tommy Robison, Mitch Shumock, and Kenny Middleton.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in honor of Mr. Middleton to Tanner Williams Holiness Church.
